Pirates Of The Caribbean - The Dead Man's Chest

Again, this movie is enough to describe the whole pirate's of the Caribbean series. First of all I just have to say I LOVE JOHNNY DEPP!!! The man is terrific. He is a fabulous actor, good-looking, smart, funny, good-looking, talented, ageless, and good-looking. No matter what the situation you could dress him up and take him anywhere (or no where). He is perfect! n he is my friend kittu's favorite actor.
Ok, now on with the review.
Overall I enjoyed this movie. It was full of action-packed scenes where I really felt thrilled and excited. The special effects were great and, like the first, dazzled me. However, it felt much more like a tribute to the first film than a full film in it's own right.
This time around the story follows our three main characters (Keira, Orlando and Johnny) trying to avoid the nasty Davy Jones, his curse, and a giant sea monster. The dialogue was not as catchy as the first movie's, so few lines were truly memorable. The acting was good but often felt more improv-based than actually scripted. At times it felt more like the cast was sharing in a personal joke with the audience than acting. More of a, "Hey remember this guy from the first film, where he is again, say hello," than an actual telling of a story that wasn't truly associated with the first film.
The sea monsters that make up the crew of the Flying Dutchman were, however, some of the most amazing costumes, effects and makeup I have seen in a long, long time (at least since LOTR). The captain who is a combination of crab and octopus was impressive but my favorite was the hammer-head shark guy. He looked downright awful and mean. Loved him! There were plenty of other creatures too that captured your imagination. Infact, I hope to rent the movie when it comes out on dvd just so I am pause it at times and look closely at all the various sea monsters. Again however, none of the special effects can make up for the fact that the overall tone of the movie seemed a bit flat and drawn out. At other times I was edge of the seat, eyes darting everywhere trying to watch it all unfold before me. And at the end, I did find myself going, "Wait, that's it? I want more!" .
Anyway, if you are looking to be entertained and are capable of just sitting back and observing without trying to figure it all out or stress the small stuff, then Pirates 2 is worth the time. However, please note that is very much a sequel - feels like, looks like, and sounds like a sequel - so don't be too dissappointed when you notice the Pirates 1 tributes and such. It is just part of the package.

I just received a confirmation email that I485 of my wife got approved just a couple of days back. But I myself have not received anything. Its kind of weird because she was my dependent and I was the primary applicant.

Can somebody please suggest if they have seen something like this before ?Do I need to do anything ?

It is not wierd, i have heard about such cases where dependent gets approval prior to primary. You may want to take an Infopass and visit the local office and inquire with them regarding your case. I think you should see your approval pretty soon.

Thanks for your advise. IF my company does not file an amendment, then will i go out of status? And if i apply for H1 transfer using the 32 hrs paycheck, then will they deny the transfer or just approve the transfer for consular processing?

1. As per Feb 20, 1992 USCIS memo, the full-time work is generally considered to be 35-40 hours per week or whatever is appropriate for the occupation. For example, air traffic controllers work 30 hours a week because of the stress. Then, in that case 30 hours would be "full time".

2. The employer MUST notify the DOL and/or USCIS in advance by filing amended petition if the terms of the employment changes during the validity period of H1B1 petition.

3. It is very common to file H1B amendment for changing from full time to part time, changing job location, or changes in job duties.

Your company must file an amended petition for the reduced hours, they will have to follow the current prev wage survey, might be a problem to get a transfer if the USICS notices the low wages, yes they might evaluate the case again.

I am an optimist. A hopeful person. I like to and want to see the positive side of things. However, the current political climate and economic state of the nation makes me skeptical.

Much has been said and (not) done so far about immigration reform. The murphy's law half of my brain is starting to get queasy. I've been in this mess for 6 years now and dread the doomsday scenario that immigration reform doesn't go through this year. If it does not, I think we're all completely effed up for the next 3-4 years, at least until after the next elections. I hope to be wrong on this, by a long shot.

My question to some of you is - what will you do if skilled reform doesn't happen this year?

My career has been stagnating, rotting away almost. I've been working on a startup idea in my spare time for a while now. Of course, these sort of ventures need time and full-time effort to take-off. I have often entertained the thought of leaving my job, returning back to India, or finding some way, by hook or crook, of doing my own thing, and reviving my career. Having lived here, first as a grad student, and now as a wage slave, for the past 9 years, returning is not an easy option. If reform does not happen, I don't see anything but darkness for a pretty long time.

What will you do?

Is it possible to include "allow filing 485" if labor has been pending for 2+ years?

Its not just people who have labor approved and are waiting for PD to be current. In fact there are a lot of ppl who are waiting for labor for 4+ years.

I think its perfectly doable. If its ok to ask for ability to file 485 without PD being current, I think its ok to ask for ability to file 485 while labor is pending.

But I guess we have gone thru this a dozen times and it doesn't appear that the plight of ppl stuck in PBEC is on IV agenda.

I don't think that would be okay as you would then be jumping the hoop of I-140. I think we should just stay with the modest request of "filing 485" without visa number availability.

possible reasons

(i)USCIS dont want to see a large number applications - as Ombudsman report indicated their performance is measured based on how much time it took to process an application. If they accept 485 applications only to keep them longer it will skew their performance benchmarks to their disadvantage. (ii)Also they just dont want to work for the rest of this financial year. By making visas unavailable their work load might have come down dramatically.
(iii)Ego clashes between some higher ups between DOS and USCIS; OR the communication gap between these two orgs is just too much.
(iv) Too may anti-immigrant who wants to screw legal-immigrants at any given opportunity. This is possible too...on numbersusa website there are special instructions/appeals to USCIS staff to do a few things and also to get some info on H1b filings, I140 filings etc. Maybe these activist employees have grown in size with tacit support from higher ups.

Of course all of these are just speculations. BUT I still could not understand why USCIS went out of its way (processing 60k applicaitons in one month; 18k in one day is certainly going way toooooooo much out of their way based on their normal efficiency) to process. I am sure they might have approved many cases which they could not have done normally. Finding out this aspect should might yield a very good story for a journalist - we should highlight this aspect in our letters to media.

Mine was denied for the same reasons (denied no rfe) and my lawyer appealed and it worked and I-140 approved.

Try to see if you can appeal. If I am not wrong you can appeal within 30 days of denial.

My company filed for I-140 around Dec-2007. During first week of Sep-2008 USCIS case status page was showing "I-140 is approved". After that since third week of Sep-2008 case status page is showing "Documents mailed to applicant".

But neighter my lawyer not my employer had received the approval notice in mail.
How to obtain the duplicate or copy of this approved I-140? What form need to be submitted? where? and how much time it takes?

What I am saying his employer process pay roll for $5800, he gets in hand after tax deduction.

You guys should understand one thing if your base salary is $1000/k, company should process $8333/pm on a pay roll then pay roll will decide about tax withholdings. There is no way company can show gimmicks and run pay roll for less. I have been working for the past 8 years, all the time companies divided annual salary by biweekly and deposited rest will be taken care by pay roll processing.

Bottom line pay slip should show 8333 not even single penny less for 100k it means you are employer is cheating you.

I can't blame AT&T one bit for trying to protect their network. And as some have already said, those who are trying to game the system are hurting those of us who are being honest by bloating the network unnecessarily.

I can blame AT&T for this because they don't account for data usage properly.

You know what I hate about crap like this?

People read it, and then point their respective (washed in soap with chemical additives and toxins) fingers at Appple, because it makes them feel good. "Yeah, this Apple stuff is crap!"

Then they go drive a block down the street to get milk from a cow who's waste runoff pollutes the local river, sit down and watch their TV with power generated from a coal-spewing power plant while eating dinner from plastic packaging that came from oil that was refined at a plant that contaminates the environment.

Unless you live on an uninhabited island, catch all your own food and generate your own power, you have no room to talk. None of us do.

I know where you're coming from, but surely it's a good thing to try and get the companies we use to improve their environmental policy? If Dell does recycle more than Apple, then maybe Apple should recycle more. If Apple's stuff lasts longer, Dell should make their stuff last longer. And yes, at the same time, we should be putting pressure on companies to reduce food packaging and use less power and fuel. I don't really see it as a competition between companies, more that if one company does something environmentally better than another, the other should try and match it, you know?

I personally don't see Android coming anywhere near Apple or RIM because their focus is so splintered and erratic. You're going to end up with the same issue as before - different interfaces on different devices. The only upside will be the uniform system.

Ouch, it must really have hurt Apple that Android *smartphones* outsold all Apple iOS *devices* worldwide in Q1 (40 million Android smartphones compared to 32 million iOS devices). So they now are making again strange comparisons that only cover *one* market and *phones* vs. *devices.

And "largest app store":
Why didn't Apple give any real numbers here? The last number was 350k in January, in March they said it's over "350k". So how much is it? Probably about 375k now but under 400k as Apple would announce that. Android market now has 325k apps but there are about 35k new apps *per month*. So in one quarter the Android market currently gets about 105k new apps. What's the growth rate in the Apple app store? That's the interesting number to see how confident developers are with the future of the platform.

I've found that most people don't care as much about their country as people believe (or say they do). They and their families well being come first above all else in almost ALL cases of people. They only care about the "country" when it benefits them in a way that they know (or are used to).What evidence do you have for this beyond the purely anecdotal?

As for "moving to the US" one of the reasons why the US is so "advanced" is not because of age old traditional Americans' feats, but the immigrants who were given the opportunity to migrate here to "escape" their country. You didn't think we invented rockety, did you? What about nuclear power? E=mc2 itself was discoverd by someone who really didn't love his country! And a whole slew of other things...like the early computers. Mostly all of this was by immigrants who left their country to go to "the land of opportunity".Usually either because their country was in ruins or because they were under threat. Neither of these things applies in Japan. There has been a major natural catastrophe, possibly more to come, but if they managed to rebuild and thrive after the wholesale destruction of WW2, they will manage this time, too. If your thesis were true, then Japan, Germany (and most of the rest of Europe) would be depopulated wasteland. Some people clearly feel heavily invested in their local cultural values.

it's not a sf bay area problem nearly as much as it is a san francisco problem.

i live in the city, and i swear - while the rest of us are working - the "neighbors against things we don't understand" go to each and every city board meeting and derail cell antenna applications.

even though we have huge chunks of the city with electrified light rail wires overhead emitting their own em radiation, it's the cellphones that must be stopped.

i'm not making excuses for att - because i think that they have experience deploying in plenty of difficult markets - they just choose to not work the system to get things done.

and let's face it - service always declines in a single-provider model.

You know how stereoscopic vision works, right?

I know how the 3DS works, but it was still fun to try. :D

Basically, the 3DS has an 800 x 240 display. It's using double the pixels to recreate the 3D effect, by creating the same image twice, but slightly adjusted to mimic three dimensions.

I think this is a horrible design choice, as the graphics looked blocky to me. I think Apple made the better decision. The extra resolution on the Retina Displays is used to make the graphics more crisp. I think it looks great! A sharper screen makes it more pleasant to use my iPhone, where the 3D effect made it more uncomfortable to use the 3DS.

Before you point out the mote in our eyes, remove the plank from your own.

If I had a plank in my eye, the 3D effect on the 3DS would be useless anyway. :p

As I’ve just commented on the coffee-wars (read the entry below). What I did not share was the cafes where I started my mornings or ended my evenings – often with Sergio’s laptop so I could include a tweet or update my blog. The two places I spent the most amount of time was Port Douglas and Sydney so it was in these places that I made friends with local baristas.

Port Douglas is a sleepy little town which made it perfect for spending a few hours each day in a coffee shop to escape the sun. After one day, both Sergio and I staked out Rehab (a local cafe) and it was not long before we started chatting with Daniel. He pours a strong cup of joe and is extremely personable. Daniel has a wedding in Canada in the summer of 2009 and it would be wonderful to have him come out and visit us. We will see what happens but anyone who pours such a nice cup of coffee is a freind of mine.

Equally nice and certainly as cute is Chris (in photo above) who works at QV Bar & Cafe. I hope that last comment does not embarrass him, but he is as sweet and friendly a person you'll meet. Quick with a comment and always smiling, I appreciated seeing him despite being groggy from late nights out in Sydney. Chris too has an open invitation if he ever decides to travel to the States. I'll be sure to find him an amicable barista to make him his morning coffee.

On our last day Sergio took a group photo of the team at QV Bar & Cafe which I've included. What a handsome bunch.

I've seen actor Gregg Edelman in three Broadway shows ove
r the years - Passion (1994), 1776 (1998) and Wonderful Town (2004) - and he was wonderful in all of them. However, I wish I could've seen his performance in the 1989 musical, City of Angels, for which he received his first Tony Award nomination for Best Actor in a Musical. The original cast recording is a delight to listen to - especially Edelman's catchy opening number, "Double Talk", and his and James Naughton's fun duet of "You're Nothing Without Me". The show also introduced Gregg to his future wife, actress Carolee Carmello, who made her Broadway debut in a small role, and they later starred opposite each other in a 1991 Goodspeed Opera House production of Arthur: The Musical.

Edelman's other Broadway credits include Evita (1980), Oliver! (1984), Cats (1986), Cabaret (1987), Anything Goes (1988), Anna Karenina (1992), Falsettos (1993), Les Misérables (1999), Into the Woods (2002) and A Tale of Two Cities (2008). He was nominated for a Tony for Best Featured Actor in a Musical for Anna Karenina, 1776 and Into the Woods, and he won a Drama Desk Award for 1776. Gregg has also appeared in such films as The First Wives Club, Spider-Man 2 and The Proposal as well as many television series, including Law & Order and The Good Wife. And beginning on January 25, he will be returning to the stage in the Off-Broadway world premiere of A.R. Gurney's comedy, Black Tie. I am so happy to have the talented actor here on the Dish to discuss his career and answer a few pop culture questions.

Let’s begin with Black Tie. What’s it about and who do you play?
Pete Gurney has written a funny and insightful comedy about family and how they deal with the crazy hours proceeding the rehearsal dinner of their eldest son, Teddy. Nothing goes as planned and that is not good news for my character, Teddy's father, Curtis. He is a man holding fast to tradition and has to learn how to deal with letting those expectations go. It's very funny and very smart. I'm a big fan of Pete Gurney, both as a playwright and a man.

Did you always want to be an actor?
Well, my first performances were doing imitations of Dean Martin and Cary Grant during third grade recess. So, I guess if you discount my first eight years, I've pretty much always wanted to act.

While you were growing up in Skokie, Illinois, and going to school at Northwestern, what were a few of your favorite things to do in and around Chicago?
I loved going to Bears games with my Uncle Art. He loved them so much that even sitting in 10 degree weather in December, you couldn't help loving them, too. It was so sad when he passed away, but when I found out that he had passed peacefully after a game in the parking lot of Soldier Field, I thought to myself, "Hey, what a way to go." I loved riding my bike with my buddies. One Saturday when we were eleven, the whole gang rode our bikes all the way from Skokie up into Wisconsin and back. We were nuts! We covered over 120 miles that day. If my kid would do that today, I'd kill him! And last, Chicago means Hackney's burgers and Gino's East pizza to me. I spent a lot of time eating in those places.

Out of all the theater you’ve done, what three shows would you love to go back and relive a single performance of?
Well, She Loves Me because it was quite simply the best experience I've ever had on stage, Anything Goes because Bill McCutcheon, Leslie Uggams and I really laughed a lot, and a Pinter play called Old Times because I'd like a second crack at it now that I'm older.

Is there a role in any musical or play that you would love to do someday?
I have to say that I've been fantasizing about playing Henry Higgins in My Fair Lady. I'd love to do that role. I also would love to do some big old play on Broadway. I've done many musicals there but every time I've been offered a play, there was always a scheduling conflict. I'd love that experience before I hang up my skates.

Puerto Rico is a beautiful place to do outdoor photo shoots, and since I have a condo apartment in San Juan, I've done several there. Along the dramatic coastline of Cabo Rojo, I did this shoot with Sammy, a male model from Puerto Rico. Ok, there really is little need to post on Idol today except as an excuse to post this new pic of Tim Urban. I am still not enjoying this season so I did my usual DVR of the show and watched it in about 12 minutes at around midnight. Skipped all the judges comments, the commercials and most of Ryan's filler. The performances were ok (and given I am objectifying Urban, I will say he was my favorite of the night...truly, and this time for his song). I am over Crystal who is good, but really is only seen as 'great' because those around her are so bad. Put her on almost any previous season and she would be long gone. I like big Mike but I think the judges might regret that save... Adam Lambert was actually a very effective mentor and I think more ex idols should return for this task.
